An adapted grand piano, the strings of which are replaced by magnetic tape and sonic transducers, is surrounded by eight reel-to-reel tape recorders. Connected to the piano via a mixer, the recorders emit an assemblage of randomly 'found' sounds and pre-recorded fragments which can be mixed, reversed or scratched by the performer.
In a reversal of expected functionality, the recorders take on the role of a musical instrument whilst the body of the piano comes to occupy the position of a speaker membrane.
